Prof. George Chrousos

Professor George Chrousos is an internationally renowned physician-scientist in pediatrics, endocrinology, and stress medicine. A graduate and valedictorian of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), he trained in medicine and pediatrics in Athens and New York, and in endocrinology at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he later served as Chief of the Pediatric and Reproductive Endocrinology Branch. He went on to chair the First Department of Pediatrics at NKUA before becoming Professor Emeritus and Director of the University Research Institute on Maternal and Child Health and Precision Medicine, as well as Head of the Laboratory of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Academy of Athens. Professor Chrousos pioneered research on the biology of stress, elucidating its effects from behavior to molecular mechanisms, and made landmark contributions to pituitary, adrenal, metabolic, and stress-related disorders, including major depression and autoimmune disease.
